Christmas tree arrives at Schuylkill courthouse

The Schuylkill County Courthouse Christmas tree has arrived.

The 12-foot Fraser fir from Leonard’s Tree Farm in Hegins made its debut Wednesday, arriving on a pickup at 1:23 p.m.

Jerry Leonard, co-owner of the business, which has a retail location in Minersville where he sells the trees, said the tree has “an old-fashioned look” to it. He said the tree is “close to 20 years old” and one he personally selected for the courthouse, something he does every year.

County Public Works Director Paul Fetterolf said the Schuylkill County Bar Association pays for the tree each year. Public works employees will string multicolored lights on the tree Friday. The Sheriff’s Department will decorate it, a task a different department does annually.

Schuylkill County Sheriff Joseph Groody said Wednesday employees will hang law enforcement patches from countywide departments next week as “a tribute to law enforcement especially during these COVID times.”
