Palmerton news for Dec. 2, 2020

Palmerton Library

The Hours for the Palmerton Area Library are Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Some changes in services have been made due to COVID-19. Changes for in-person services are: computer use is by appointment only with a time limit of 45 minutes and browsing is also by appointment only with a time limit of 30 minutes. To schedule an appointment, call the library at 610-826-3424. Appointments are scheduled by phone only.

Curbside pickup requests during regular hours can be done three ways: first is log in to your library account at palmertonarealibrary.com and place a hold. You will be called when your materials are available to schedule a pickup time. Second is to call the library and a librarian will assist you and schedule pickup. Third is email your request to plapalm@ptd.net and please include your first and last name and phone number with your request.

While in the library, masks and social distancing are required.

Faith Alive Church

Faith Alive Church, 678 Pine St., Palmerton (Bowmanstown) will hold Advent Services with Pastor Rob Timlin for the month of December. The Theme is “The Gifts of Love” - Hope, Love, Joy and Peace. There are two Sunday services each week: 9 a.m. is a traditional service and 10:30 a.m. is contemporary. The four options of worship remain the same. You may worship in the sanctuary or in Leah’s Room (masks required) or in the parking lot with audio at FM 104.3 or online through Facebook Live.

Sunday school for kids will begin on Dec. 6 at 10:30 a.m. in the fellowship hall for ages 3 years to senior high. All children are welcome to come and celebrate Jesus’ birth.

December’s Prayer and Praise is held each Wednesday at 7 p.m. with Advent Christmas carols.

The December Missions is “Volunteers in Mission Team to Puerto Rico.” Unfortunately the missionaries cannot travel until quarantine is lifted. All the December gifts will be held until they are able to travel again; 100% of the gifts go to projects and materials - none to the caring volunteers.

Dec. 20 is “Kids Christmas Glow Night” from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and the “Youth Group Christmas Party” from 6-8 p.m.

Dec. 24 will be the Christmas Eve Candlelight Services. At 4 p.m. will be a contemporary service and at 6 p.m. will be the traditional service.

Christmas in the park

The Bach and Handel Chorale will hold a Christmas concert in the borough park from 3-5 p.m. on Saturday. The Christmas in the park event will feature 153 trees that will be lit in the park around dusk.

Santa Claus

On Saturday, Santa, escorted by the Aquashicola Fire Department, will drive through town waving to all the children. Santa will start at the West End Fire Department. He will travel Mauch Chunk Road to Delaware Avenue to First Street. He will turn onto Lehigh Avenue and travel from First Street to Eighth Street on Lehigh Avenue, crossing over Delaware Avenue to Franklin Avenue. He will travel Franklin Avenue to First Street then turn up to Lafayette Avenue and travel Lafayette Avenue to Eighth Street. He will turn up to Columbia Avenue at Eighth Street and take it back to First Street. Santa will be in town from 1 to 3 p.m. so please come out to see him.

Parryville Borough

The Parryville Borough invites you to the annual tree lighting on Dec. 5 at 4:30 p.m. in from of the Parryville Borough Hall. Please gather at 4:30 p.m. Santa will arrive at 5:30 a.m. and the lighting will be at 6 p.m. Masks will be required and observe social distancing.
