Carbon Co. reports 24 virus cases

Carbon County officials have reported 24 confirmed COVID-19 cases within various departments.

Commissioners Chris Lukasevich and Rocky Ahner provided an update on Monday evening.

Ahner said that in addition to the 24 positive cases, 38 employees have returned to work following a negative result and a doctor’s note, 27 others had a negative result but are waiting on doctor’s instructions and 24 employees are quarantined while they wait on their results.

Last month, the commissioners closed all county owned or operated buildings to the public after four cases in various departments were reported in the courthouse.

Lukasevich said that the closure remains at this time and public access to county facilities will remain restricted.

“The county continues to review elements of its COVID-19 prevention, mitigation and recovery plan on a daily basis,” he said.

Lukasevich urged everyone who has to do business with a department to use email, phone and online transactions. Contact information and various online services can be found at www.carboncounty.com.

Ahner said that in addition to the public being restricted, employees are also highly encouraged to remain in their offices during business hours unless they are receiving deliveries at the front entrances. Other exceptions are work-related duties that cannot be done over the phone, via interoffice mail or by email, which are the preferred ways of communication between departments at this time.

Masks must also be worn by all employees and visitors upon entering the county offices.

Public meetings, such as the weekly commissioners’ meeting, will continue to be livestreamed on the county’s Facebook page Carbon County Commissioners. Draft agendas are posted on the county website 24 hours before the meeting.

Lukasevich said that the public can email comments to cccommis@ptd.net no less than 12 hours before scheduled meeting times.

Last week, President Judge Roger Nanovic signed the eighth amended administrative order of the courts and outlined court operations moving forward.

It includes delaying jury trials until January and only holding essential operations at this time.
