Virtual concert planned in Lehighton

The Lehighton Band will present a virtual concert at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 7 from the Lehighton Band parking lot.

The concert will be broadcast on Facebook Live. Those who would like to watch the concert may visit www.facebook.com/lehightonband.

The band has been practicing in a socially distanced setting for the past few months following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations and temperature checks.

The band is smaller than normal due to the pandemic and health concerns of some of its members, but the group of dedicated musicians creates a blended sound.

The concert will consist of a combination of traditional and nontraditional holiday songs.

It will open with “All is Well,” written by contemporary Christian singer and songwriter Michael W. Smith. This band arrangement is by Michael Brown.

Originally planned to welcome the arrival of Santa Claus to the canceled downtown event, the band will instead present “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” arranged by C. Paul Herfurth.

“A Celebration of Christmas Carols” will be the next selection and includes “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” “Away in a Manger” and “Deck the Halls,” and was arranged by Jack Bullock.

The soloist for the evening is Joseph Plechavy, who will sing the holiday favorite “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” arranged by Douglas E. Wagner.

Plechavy, a trombone player in the band, has performed solos with the band on many occasions in the past.

The next piece is titled “Christmas Favorites,” which includes “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” “A Holly Jolly Christmas” and “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day.” The arrangement is by James Swearingen.

A medley starts the next section of the concert. “Let it Snow/Winter Wonderland” is a combination of these two classic Christmas songs and arranged by Ralph Ford.

The next song is an opportunity for audience members to sing along with some of their favorite Christmas songs and includes “Deck the Halls,” “Jingle Bells,” “O Christmas Tree” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”

A “Cambridge Carol” arranged by Vince Gassi is the next song.

The last portion of the concert begins with “Dona Nobis Pacem,” by James Sudduth followed by Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas” arranged by John Warrington.

The final song is “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” arranged by Aaron Thomas.

The Lehighton Band is a nonprofit organization under the direction of Bradly R. Cressley.
