Please wear a mask

We enjoy the Times News daily. We appreciate that the stories are reported locally and hope that “local” news can continue in this time when much is “big boxed” and fed out to the masses. We also very much enjoy the many photos of local happenings. Keep up the good work!

We couldn’t help but notice in your Saturday, Nov. 14, edition of the Times News, three photographs where COVID-19 safety protocols were being ignored.

Page 5: Nesquehoning VFW naming John McArdle Nesquehoning Hose Company Firefighter of the Year.

Page 6: Tamaqua Area High School Announcing Homecoming Court.

Page 10: The joyous occasion of exceptional Student/Athlete, Lydia Wallace, signing a Letter of Intent with a prestigious Division 1 University.

In all cases the use of masks and social distancing were not being observed. It is unconscionable to us that a school district, which has spent who knows what level of resources to thwart this virus, can allow this level of negligence. What message is a principal exhibiting when he proudly stands with complete disregard to the people he is with, as well as ALL the individuals he may encounter. We must presume that an individual entering any of Jim Thorpe’s facilities does not require a mask? Shame on you, Jim Thorpe Area School District and Tamaqua Area School District.

You can choose to listen to whatever resources you wish regarding whether to don a mask or not. To us it remains a simple decision. If you choose not to wear a mask, and you are wrong, you, your loved ones and anyone one in proximity to you may die. Please wear a mask.

Sincerely,

Bob & Lydia Boileau
