Off The Charts

Work with local.

Make them national.

Now that would truly be “Off The Charts.”

A highly anticipated music school is set to open in Palmerton.

Off The Charts Music School is hosting a three-day grand opening through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., at its home at 306 Delaware Ave.

The school is the crown jewel for Dustin Rehrig, founder of DDR Entertainment, who along with his wife, Beth, and their daughter April, will be running it.

Rehrig said he and Beth will oversee the business operation and put their efforts into the building, along with marketing. April will be in charge of daily operations, scheduling and the store’s employees.

He said they are also hiring a husband and wife teaching team - whom they have been friends with for over a decade - and will be in charge of hand picking the teachers based on their business model.

Rehrig said the entire downstairs of the building was gutted, and individual studios built along with a waiting area, receptionist and a small amount of products for sale such as drum sticks, guitar picks, music books and cables.

He said the upstairs, scheduled to open in February, will consist of two 400-square-foot sound stages where students can rehearse when they are part of the school’s Chart Toppers program. Rehrig said those rooms will also be TV ready where they can shoot their own music videos or interviews. Bands can rent these spaces to rehearse as well. In addition to sound stages, there will be a separate TV studio drum room, along with a sound engineering live classroom.

Rehrig said the music school will consist of one-on-one music lessons, summer camps and famous musician/music professional clinics.

He said it will be open to all adults and children who are old enough to read and write.

Rehrig said the plan is to be open seven days a week provided the demand is there, and anticipates hiring 20 employees once the business is fully up and running.

In addition, he said they plan to have summer camps for younger children, lessons of all types, and even once-a-month special concerts for their live performance groups.

Lessons will start on Monday, Rehrig said.

“I just wanted to have some fun with the kids. It gives them something to do,” Rehrig said. “I’m trying to do a lot of fun stuff, try to make it fun for the kids.”

Rehrig said they’re hoping to have around 150 to 200 students.

“We’re excited. The town seems to be really excited,” he said. “It’s exciting at this point because the interest level is throughout, and that’s something we couldn’t have dreamed of.”
