Man charged with striking woman with baseball bat

A Palmerton man has been charged after striking a woman with a baseball bat.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by patrolman Brian Stern of the Palmerton Borough Police Department in the case against Kevin Rehrig:

At 3:16 a.m. Nov. 21, Stern was called to a possible domestic disturbance at a home on Lafayette Ave.

The caller told the control center he could hear items being smashed, threats of violence, and a man withholding a phone from a woman so she could not call 911.

The victim told Stern that Rehrig, 61, had struck her with a baseball bat.

She said Rehrig held her in the bedroom by threatening her with the bat, and that he raised the bat above his head and threatened to bash her head in every time she would try to get up.

The caller said he heard the victim say that Rehrig threatened to bash her head in with a bat, and told Stern that the victim said, “wait till they see what you did to my knee.”

Rehrig faces charges of simple assault, harassment by physical contact, and terroristic threats.

He is currently incarcerated in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 straight bail, and scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Dec. 2 before District Judge William Kissner of Palmerton.
