State police at Fern Ridge report on crashes

State police at Fern Ridge reported investigating the following crashes

• A two-vehicle crash was reported at 4:27 p.m. on Nov. 19 at the intersection of Route 115 and Gilbert Road in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County. Troopers said Tonia L. Rhode, 41, of Albrightsville, driving a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, was slowing due to traffic issues while southbound on 115. As she slowed down her vehicle was struck in the rear by a 2009 Toyota Prius driven by Michelle R. Fritz, 28, of Kunkletown. After impact the two vehicles traveled about 100 feet into the parking lot of the Exxon Service Station.

No one was injured but both vehicles had to be towed.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 5:27 p.m. on Nov. 18 along Interstate 80 in Kidder Township, Carbon County. Troopers said Nicholas A. Scotti, 18, of Nutley, New Jersey, was driving a 2009 Ford Mustang eastbound when a deer entered the road from the right shoulder. The deer hit the passenger’s side of the Mustang and then the windshield. The Mustang came to a stop along the left shoulder about 150 feet from the point of impact.

Scotti and his passenger, Victoria P. Scotti, 18, same address, refused medical treatment. The troopers were assisted at the scene by volunteers from the Lake Harmony Rescue Squad. The vehicle had to be towed.

• Another crash on I-80 was reported at 10:15 p.m. on Nov. 20 in East Side Borough, Carbon County. Troopers said Pedro S. Branco, 27, of Gaithersburg, Maryland, was driving a 2019 Toyota Rav4 eastbound and failed to travel at a safe speed which caused his vehicle to strike a deer head-on.

Branco was not injured.

A crash was reported at 7:40 p.m. on Nov. 18 in the parking lot of the Dunkin’ Donuts off Weir Lake Road, Brodheadsville, in Chestnuhill Township. Troopers said Huiyu Weng, 50, of Brooklyn, New York, backed her 2015 Honda Pilot into a light pole, causing damage to the business’s electrical sign. Weng then switched drivers and fled the scene. Weng was located at her residence and identified by the registration on her vehicle. She was cited for the crash.

Both drivers in a crash that occurred on Nov. 21 at 8:37 a.m. at the intersection of Route 209 and Weir Lake Road in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County, have been cited.

• State police at Fern Ridge said William J. Carver, 24, of Brodheadsville, was operating a 2002 Lexus ES300 and turning left onto 209 from Weir Lake Road while a 17-year-old male from Saylorsburg, was driving a 2012 Ford Fusion, went through a red light, striking the Lexus with his vehicle.

Carver was taken by West End ambulance to the Lehigh Valley Hospital - Pocono Campus, East Stroudsburg, for treatment of an injury. The teen was not injured. The Fusion had to be towed.

Troopers cited the teen for obedience to traffic control devices and Carver for operation of a vehicle without official certificate of inspection.
