Lehighton votes to stay with current learning models

Lehighton Area School Board voted unanimously Monday night to stay with its current learning model of full five-day in-person instruction for elementary and middle school students, and a hybrid system for high school students.

The board looked at full remote learning, which is recommended by the Pennsylvania Department of Health because of the substantial community transmission. However, on Monday Gov. Tom Wolf gave districts a choice of signing an attestation they are following protocols for cleaning and social distancing.

Palmerton, Panther Valley, Jim Thorpe and Carbon Career & Technical Institute have voted for remote learning for a period of time.
