Carbon County court — guilty pleas

A total of nine defendants in pending criminal cases entered guilty pleas on Monday in Carbon County court.

Judge Joseph J. Matika accepted pleas from the following.

Domestic assault

Anthony Sims, 23, of Lansford, pleaded to one count of simple assault stemming from a domestic incident.

He was arrested on Sept. 22 by Kidder Township police at the Hickory Run Motel, Route 534. Police were called to the motel for a domestic dispute with Sims’ girlfriend the listed victim.

Sims is currently an inmate in the county prison on the charges. In a plea deal with the district attorney’s office, a felony count of strangulation was dropped. It was noted the victim agreed to the plea deal.

Matika sentenced Sims to time-served (55 days) to 18 months in prison and ordered he get a mental health evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, attend and successfully complete an anger management course, supply a DNA sample and render 75 hours of community service.

Five summaries

Stewart A. Counterman Jr., 40, of Lehighton, pleaded guilty to five summary offenses for an incident on June 28, 2017, filed by Lansford police. He was originally charged with 12 counts. In a plea deal with the district attorney’s office, a felony 3 charge of aggravated assault by vehicle and three counts of recklessly endangering another person were dropped.

He pleaded to one count each of give false information, careless driving, financial responsibility, reckless driving and safety restraints for a child in the car.

Matika imposed fines totaling $675 and ordered restitution of $4,061.87.

Unauthorized use

Gabriel M. Hines, 18, of McAdoo, pleaded to one count of unauthorized use of an automobile.

He was arrested on Sept. 22 by Weatherly police for an incident in which he had in his possession a Ford Explorer which he did not have permission to possess.

He was placed on probation for a year and ordered to render 50 hours of community service and have no contact with the victim.

He is currently in the county prison and is facing charges in Monroe County.

Nicholas Alexander Hadley, 34, of Kunkletown, pleaded to one count of resisting arrest.

He was arrested on Dec. 7, 2018, by state police at Lehighton at the barracks along Interchange Road in Towamensing Township. While being interviewed by troopers in another matter, he lunged at the trooper interviewing him and had to be restrained.

He was placed on probation for a year and ordered to get a mental health evaluation and render 50 hours of community service.

He is currently an inmate in the Monroe County prison. His plea was entered via video conference from that prison.

Joseph R. Kosalko Jr., 41, of Summit Hill, pleaded guilty in two pending cases to two counts of flight to avoid apprehension.

In both cases police attempted a traffic stop him to serve a warrant and he fled. The incidents occurred on Nov. 4, 2017, in Lansford, and Jan. 20, in Summit Hill.

Sentencing was deferred, and the adult probation office was ordered to prepare a presentence investigation report.

Lisa Marie Ciampaglia, 29, of Effort, pleaded to one count of tampering with evidence.

She was arrested on March 12, 2014, by Nesquehoning police for an incident in which an iPhone was stolen. She was accused of trying to destroy the phone to avoid arrest.

She was sentenced to serve 11 to 23 days in jail with credit for 23 days already served and paroled.

Amber Colleen Defiore, 37, of Allentown, pleaded to one count of defiant trespass. She was charged for an incident on July 20 at Mooney’s Motel in Franklin Township, filed by state police at Lehighton.

Sentencing was deferred because she has other pending cases.

Kendall Joy Lawless, 20, of White Haven, pleaded to one count of driving under the influence. She was arrested on Nov. 5, 2018, by Weatherly police along Main Street. A test revealed a 0.04 BAC.

Sentencing was deferred.

Justin William Cannon, 28, of Albrightsville, pleaded to one count of disorderly conduct, a summary offense, which was added to the original complaint. In exchange for the plea, the DA’s office dropped a misdemeanor count of false identification to law enforcement.

He was arrested on July 9 by Franklin Township police along Overlook Drive following a vehicle stop.

He was fined $150.

Cannon is currently an inmate in the county prison.

Lisa Catherine Iennaco, 38, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of disorderly conduct, a summary offense. She was arrested on June 1 by Franklin Township police at Mooney’s Motel.

She was sentenced to serve five to 11 days in jail with credit for 11 already served and paroled.

Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee if on parole or probation.
