The Mauch Chunk Opera House may be closed to the public at this time, but a musical fundraiser this week aims to help them keep the lights on once the pandemic is over.

On Thursday, Clap Hands Jim Thorpe, a fundraiser for the opera house, will be livestreamed at 8 p.m.

The event is produced by Samuel Saint Thomas and will be a livecast of Tom Waits Music by The Bovine Social Club.

The group consists of Saint Thomas, Casey McGinty, Ronald Baumann, Damian Calcagne, A.J. Jump, Steve Shalit and Jesse Bardwell.

The concert will capture the poetry and songs of Tom Waits.

According to the opera house, “Samuel’s carefully curated band of six Waits devotees set out to find inventive ways of expressing and arranging each song story, prompting them to go down into the song hole to mine the dimly lit layers of their personal experience.”
