Carbon making way through provisional ballots

Carbon County had a nearly 72 percent turnout in this year’s presidential election.

On Thursday at the county election board’s monthly meeting, Lisa Dart, director of elections, said that a total of 33,408 ballots were cast.

“This is the highest I have ever seen since I am here,” she said.

She noted that her office is still counting provisional ballots. There were approximately 625 provisional ballots received with 288 remaining to be processed as of Thursday.

Dart said that each provisional ballot is checked against the voter registrations, poll books and surrender forms to make sure voters were eligible to vote and did not cast another ballot. Each provisional must then be entered manually by hand.

“So far, everything is fine,” Dart said, but added that this is a big task that her office had not had to deal with before.

She added that voters who cast a ballot by provisional should receive a letter within two weeks.

The board also said there were some questions relating to the Sharpies used at the polls, but there was no problem because of the marker in Carbon County.
