Carbon County court — drug cases
A Carbon County man pleaded guilty on Thursday to a drug charge and was immediately sentenced to a prison term.
Braxton Richard Reppert, 23, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of possession of a controlled substance, heroin, before Judge Steven R. Serfass.
In exchange for the plea, the district attorney’s office agreed to drop a felony count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.
Serfass sentenced Reppert, whose plea was accepted via video conference from the Lehigh County prison where he is being held on other charges, to serve three to one day less 24 months in the county prison.
Reppert was arrested on Jan. 1 by Lehighton police and members of the county drug task force as part of an ongoing investigation into heroin trafficking in the county. Police received information that Reppert and another man were traveling to Hazleton to purchase heroin and then return to Carbon County to sell it. Police set up a surveillance operation, and when Reppert and the other man returned to the county, a vehicle stop was conducted along South Lehigh Street in Jim Thorpe. Found in the vehicle were 120 bags of heroin.
In addition to the prison term, Reppert was ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, zero tolerance imposed for drug or alcohol use, make restitution to the attorney general office of $220 and serve 100 hours of community service.
Sentenced
Siobhan T. Carrasso, 59, of Jim Thorpe, was placed on probation for a year on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.
She was arrested on Feb. 10 by Jim Thorpe police.
She was found guilty of the charge by Serfass following a bench trial. She told the court she was going to appeal the conviction.
She was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and serve 50 hours of community service.
Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole or probation.
