More COVID-19 cases in Tamaqua school, Schuylkill

Another Schuylkill County employee has been diagnosed with COVID-19.

A letter from Doreen Kutzler, interim human resources director, Thursday said the county was notified that day. Identifying information was not provided.

“Contact tracing has been completed by HR. At this time and specific to this situation, two other employees are required to quarantine,” the letter reads.

The letter advises employees to not come to work if they are sick or have signs or symptoms of illness including fever, cough, or shortness of breath.

Employees are provided information regarding the difference between isolation and quarantine.

Kutzler was not available for comment Friday.

Additional employees tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this month.

The county has taken steps to combat the pandemic including requiring employees, county and judicial officials to be screened initially upon entering the courthouse.

Actions by the county include contact tracing, consistent cleaning and disinfecting of common areas of the courthouse facilities, work spaces and others.

Tamaqua student tests positive

Tamaqua Area School District sent a letter to families on Friday saying that a student in Tamaqua Elementary School tested positive for COVID-19.

The student is now in isolation and had not been in school in several days.

The Department of Health determined that two additional people have to quarantine.

“While evidence continues to suggest transmissions occurring outside of the school setting, we want to assure our students, staff and families that we continue ourmitigation efforts during the school day,” Raymond Kinder, superintendent, wrote. “Further, we want to emphasize the need to participate in these healthy protocols while home during the week and especially on weekends.

“Cases we have had thus far appear isolated. If cases begin to cluster or become widespread, we will need to react cautiously to support the health and wellbeing of our students and staff.”
