Sponsorships available for Wreaths Across America in Eastern Schuylkill County

Location coordinators are seeking sponsors and volunteers for Wreaths Across America, an international observance honoring deceased American veterans that will be held at Sky-View Memorial Park, Hometown at noon on Dec. 19.

WAA remembers the lives of all deceased veterans who served in the United States military.

The organization is seeking volunteers of all ages and from all walks of life.

Sky-View Memorial Park was selected due to its high visibility along the north side of state Route 54, just east of the intersection of Routes 54 and 309 in Hometown, and the number of veterans interred there.

According to Robert A. Miller III, president of Sky-View and a Vietnam War veteran, more than 3,400 veterans are buried on the grounds of the 30-acre memorial park.

Sky-View is flat, making it easily navigable for elderly and physically challenged visitors. Convenient and adequate parking is available.

In addition to recruiting volunteers for the Dec. 19 wreath-laying ceremony, location coordinators are seeking sponsors for wreaths honoring American heroes. Anyone can sponsor a wreath.

A sponsorship ensures that a handcrafted wreath of American balsam, decorated with a hand-tied red velvet ribbon, will be shipped to Sky-View Memorial Park, where a volunteer will place it at the grave of a veteran. The volunteer will then speak the name of the veteran to ensure his or her legacy of bravery, duty, service, and sacrifice is never forgotten. The cost of a single wreath is $15; sponsorship of two wreaths at $30 includes a complimentary third wreath that will be placed at a grave site in the memorial park. Multiples are also available for sponsorships.

Liz and Paul Corinchock and Christine and Eric Zizelmann are location coordinators for the inaugural event in eastern Schuylkill County.
