Police report on crashes in Monroe County

State police at Stroudsburg report investigating the following crashes on Monroe County roadways:

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 10:49 p.m. on Oct. 10 along Route 209 in Chestnuthill Township, just south of the Pleasant Valley High School. Troopers said Gregory J. Thomas, 27, of Blakeslee, was driving a 2016 Subaru Impreza southbound and going too fast for conditions when his vehicle left the road and struck a utility pole along the right berm. Thomas was not injured but his vehicle was towed.

He was cited for the crash.

• Another one-vehicle crash was reported at 1:09 a.m. on Oct. 11 along Craigs Meadow Road, in Smithfield Township. Troopers said Sophia V. Saavedra, 19, of Tobyhanna, was driving a 2017 Jeep Renegade southbound when her vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole along the berm. Upon impact the Renegade rolled over landing on its wheels facing south.

Saavedra was not injured. The Jeep had to be towed.

She was cited for the crash.

• A Monroe County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence following a one-vehicle crash that occurred at 11:39 a.m. on July 20 along Interstate 380 in Tobyhanna Township.

State police at Stroudsburg said Jamie L. Ohern, 26, of Tobyhanna, was driving a 2015 GMC Terrain southbound when the vehicle entered a grassy area just before the guide rail. She attempted to return to the road but her vehicle struck the guide rail, causing the vehicle to roll down an embankment and come to rest on its passenger side.

The DUI charge, plus other counts, are pending blood test results, troopers said.
