Tamaqua man charged in assault

Tamaqua police reported on the following arrests made by officers.

Matthew Hibbler, 18, of the 100 block of W. Rowe Street, Tamaqua, is facing charges of aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, harassment and disorderly conduct for an incident on Oct. 8.

At 5:30 p.m. on that date police received a report of a unconscious man laying in a pool of blood along West Rowe Street. On scene officers found the man being treated by Tamaqua EMS personnel. He was bleeding from the head and facial area.

He was then taken to St. Luke’s Miners Hospital, in Coaldale.

While being treated the victim told officers that he and Hibbler had an altercation in which the suspect had struck him several times causing him to fall to the ground.

Police said they were also able to secure a video from security camera. It showed Hibbler striking the victim twice with the victim attempting to flee and Hibbler going after him and striking him a third time with the victim falling to the ground.

Police said the victim suffered multiple injuries. Police also noted the victim was later transferred to St. Luke’s Hospital in Fountain Hill.
