Police report on crashes on I-81

Troopers reported on another motorcycle crash which occurred on Oct. 15 at 6:19 p.m. on the on-ramp to Interstate 81 in Kline Township.

Troopers said Philip C. Fodness, 69, of Orangeville, Columbia County, was driving a 2007 Harley Davidson Sportster northbound and while rounding a left curve in the ramp, the bike veered onto the shoulder and struck the guide rail. The bike then turned onto its side, causing Fodness to be ejected from the bike. He was wearing a protective helmet and protective pants and coat.

He was taken to the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, for treatment.

A hit-and-run crash was also reported on Oct. 9 at 8:45 p.m. along Interstate 81 in Frailey Township. Troopers said Thomas J. Powell, 63, of Reston, Virginia, was driving a 2007 GMC Denali southbound in the right lane when another vehicle passed him in the left lane.

Powell said the other vehicle hit the side of his vehicle, causing him to lose control. The GMC left the road, traveled into a grassy area along the right berm and came to rest.

The other driver failed to stop and continued southbound. Powell was not injured. Powell said the other vehicle was a tractor-trailer but could give no other information.
