Bat craft Saturday

The West End Park & Open Space Commission is hosting a free October craft time, making bats, at the Chestnuthill Township Park, Saturday.

The event time is between 10 a.m. and noon. One may also visit and bring home the craft materials. The event is ongoing as long as materials last. The craft takes about 15 minutes to make.

Those coming are asked to wear masks and remember to follow COVID-19 guidelines.

Pet parade

The West End Park and Open Space Commission is hosting the annual Pet (Costume) Parade at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Ross Township Park, 258 Anchorage Road, Saylorsburg.

Prizes for the Scariest, Cutest, Most Original, and Pet & Owner Look-a-Like.

Dress up that favorite pet and come have some fun.

Saturday service

Zion Lutheran in Brodheadsville has announced it will resume Saturday services in the sanctuary beginning this Saturday at 5 p.m.

St. Matthew’s news

Exercise class is Monday and Wednesday at 1 p.m. Social distancing will be observed.

Adult Sunday school is being held every Sunday at 10:30 at church. Different topics are presented each week.

On Nov. 1, the services will move to the sanctuary. Social distancing will be observed.

Services continue

St. John’s Lutheran Church on Merwinsburg Road, Effort, will continue with Communion on the first Sunday of each month until the end of the year 2020.

Worship time each Sunday is 9:30 a.m. All are welcome.

Unfortunately, the fall rummage sale has been canceled. The next sale will be in June 2021.

Sunday services

The congregation of St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, Saylorsburg, continues to meet both in-person and virtually every Sunday morning at 10 a.m.

Polk Supervisors

The Polk Township Board of Supervisors is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Monday.

Farmer Day

Pleasant Valley Intermediate will be celebrating Farmer Day on Tuesday and then on Thursday, as will PV Elementary.

Nomination due

Nomination for the Helen G. Brown Award are due by Oct. 21. It is given annually to a person or organization that has contributed to a program of excellence which enhances the quality of life of Monroe County Senior Citizens, with significant contributions between Jan. 1, 2019, and Dec. 31, 2019.

Craft & gift fair

West End Park and Open Space Commission is hosting a Craft and Gift Fair on Oct. 31 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Find unique gifts for everyone.

The event is being held at Chestnuthill Park (221 Route 715, Brodheadsville). Guests and visitors are to wear a mask. COVID-19 guidelines are to be followed.

Trick or treat

The West End Park and Open Space Commission has announced its annual trick-or-treat event for this year will be a drive-through format from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31, along with the West End Fire Company which will host the night at its home base in Brodheadsville on Route 715, behind Wawa.

Participants are to remain in their respective car and follow the traffic control officers.

Any community organization which would like to participate or would like to make a candy donation is asked to contact Bernie at 570-992-9733.

Polk trick or treat

Polk Township’s trick or treat will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 31. Families who would like to participate are asked to turn on an outdoor light. There is no rain date.

Halloween parade

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, will hold a Halloween parade at 2 p.m. for parishioners in the church parking lot on Oct. 31.

Families are invited to dress up the car and family members and then enter the church grounds from the Route 209 entrance.

Costumed characters, all wearing masks and gloves, will come out and give out individually wrapped candy. Cars then exit on Weir Lake Road.

For added safety, all drivers and passengers must either have their windows up, or they can roll them down if they’re wearing a mask. Members are reminded that individually wrapped candy is needed for the parade.

Thanksgiving needs

The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network in Sciota is hoping to receive Thanksgiving needs donations of cranberry sauce, gravy, French fried onions, and evaporated/condensed milk

Donations are requested to be at the PVEN by Nov. 1.

Veterans parade

A Veterans Day parade is set for 10:30 a.m. Nov. 8 in honor of the veterans at Pocono Raceway.

Coloring contest

West End Park and Open Space Commission’s annual coloring contest is a scarecrow for ages 3-11. Youngsters can have fun coloring one with crayons, paint, markers, colored pencils, stickers, straw, beads, glitter, etc. and return on or before Nov. 16. One winner per age categories of 3-5, 6-8 and 9-11, will be selected to win a prize and their pictures will be featured on the WEPOSC Facebook page. After the contest has ended, all entries will be donated to a local nursing home with only the children’s first names and ages on them, for the residents to decorate their rooms.

Entry drop-offs can be done in person on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3 to 6 p.m. with Kim or one call Bernie at 570-992-9733 to arrange another time. Also the entries be mailed to: WEPOSC, Attention Bernie and Kim, P.O. Box 243, Brodheadsville, PA, 18322.

Copies of the scarecrow to be colored can be picked up at the Park on Route 715 in Brodheadsville.
