Tamaqua driver in Berks crash

A Tamaqua driver was involved in a crash in Berks County.

State police at Hamburg said the crash occurred at 5:22 p.m. on Monday along Route 61 at the intersection with Moselem Springs Road (Route 662), in Shoemakersville. Troopers said Cynthia M. Rothermel, 55, of Lyon Station, Berks County, was attempting to negotiate a left-hand turn from Route 61 onto Route 662 when she failed to stop for a red traffic light. Francis A. Hill, 45, of Tamaqua, was northbound at the time. Rothermel pulled out in front of Hill. Hill’s 2015 Ford Taurus struck Rothermel’s 2009 Pontiac G6 in the front. The Pontiac spun counterclockwise 90 degrees. Both drivers refused medical treatment, troopers said. Both vehicles had to be towed.

Rothermel was cited for a red light violation.
