State police at Fern Ridge report on area crashes

State police at Fern Ridge reported investigating the following crashes:

• A three-vehicle crash was reported at 11:33 a.m. on Oct. 12 along Route 209 in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County. The driver involved were identified as Jeffrey S. Richardson II, 26, of Washington, D.C., Jennifer A. Kane, 37, of Gilbert, and Christopher J. Wilkins, 60, of Effort. None of the drivers were injured but a passenger with Richardson, Latreasa P. Gardiner, 27, of Bronx, New York, sustained a suspected minor injury and was taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital - Pocono campus, East Stroudsburg.

Troopers did not release another other details of the crash.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 3:12 p.m. on Oct. 10 along Route 903 in Penn Forest Township, Carbon County. Troopers said Joseph M. Renshaw, 62, of Riverside, New Jersey, was driving a 2003 Ford Explorer, northbound when he lost control on a right curve at the entrance to Valerio’s Pizzeria. The Explorer struck a utility pole head-on, then flipped onto the driver’s side in a ditch.

Renshaw was not injured. The pole was split in half, allowing wire to hang extremely low. Damages were disabling to the Explorer and had to be towed. Troopers were assisted at the scene by volunteers of the Penn Forest Township Fire Company, who directed traffic around the crash scene.

Renshaw was cited for driving a vehicle at a unsafe speed.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported on Aug. 20 at 8:37 a.m. along Interstate 80 in Kidder Township, Carbon County. Troopers said Muhammad Faizan, 22, of Queens Village, New York, was driving a 2014 Toyota Corolla in the left lane westbound when his vehicle went onto the berm causing him to lose control. The vehicle re-entered the road, crossed both westbound lanes before striking guide rail on the right side of the road. Faizan was then able to regain control of the vehicle and brought it to a stop.

Faizan was not injured. The Toyota had to be towed. Troopers cited Faizan for the crash.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 4:45 p.m. on Oct. 20 along Route 903 in Penn Forest Township, Carbon County. Troopers said Carl N. Puschak, 66, of Lake Harmony, was driving a 2003 Subaru Outback northbound when the vehicle began to drift onto the right should and struck a ditch. The vehicle then flipped over multiple times, coming to final reset on its roof facing southbound.

Puschak was taken by Lehighton EMS to the Geisinger-Wyoming Medical Center, Plains Township, Luzerne County, for treatment of a suspected minor injury. The vehicle had to be towed. Troopers were assisted at the scene by volunteers from the Penn Forest Township Nov. 2 Fire Company.

Puschak was cited for the crash.

• A one-vehicle crash occurred at 2:31 p.m. on Oct. 20 along Frantz Road in Chestnuthill Township. Katina A. Moore, 30, of Brodheadsville, was driving a 2015 Nissan Rogue westbound when she failed to stay within her lane of travel. The Rogue entered the berm and struck a tree.

Moore sustained a suspected minor injury and was treated at the scene by West End ambulance personnel.

She was cited for driving at a unsafe speed.

• State police at Fern Ridge reported investigating a two-vehicle crash on Saturday at the intersection of Route 115 and Astolat Road, in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County, at 12:35 p.m.

Troopers said Victoria M. Dempsey, 73, of Albrightsville, and James D. Rau, 66, of Bethlehem, were both northbound on 115 when Dempsey’s 2015 Subaru struck the rear of Rau’s 2003 Honda motorcycle. Rau suffered a suspected minor injury and was taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital - Pocono campus, East Stroudsburg, by West End ambulance. Dempsey was not injured.

Dempsey was cited for careless driving.

• Troopers said a crash occurred at 6:46 a.m. on Tuesday at the intersection of Meckesville Road at East Old Stage Road, in Penn Forest Township, Carbon County. Troopers said Jose I. Vazquez, 72, of Albrightsville, was operating a 2015 Nissan Rogue southbound on Meckesville Road when he failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection. He traveled through the intersection and hit a parked JI Case backhoe construction vehicle.

Vazquez and passengers Brandon S. Kelly, 31, of Tampa, Florida, and Doris N. Vazquez, 29, of Albrightsville, were transported to the Geisinger Wyoming Medical Center, Plains Township, Luzerne County, for treatment of suspected minor injuries. The Rogue was towed.

Vazquez was cited for the crash.

• A two-vehicle crash was reported on Oct. 14 at 12:09 p.m. along Route 115 in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County. Troopers said Katie E. Frankunas, 20, of Kunkletown, and Peter Kulik, 51, of Blakeslee, were both southbound. Kulik began to slow down due to heavy traffic ahead of him. Frankunas failed to slow down with the front of her 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander hitting the rear of Kulik’s 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 truck.

No one was injured. The Outlander had to be towed while the truck sustained minor damages.

Frankunas was cited for following too closely.
