A look back: Oct. 20, 1979

Summit Hill Borough Councilman Phillip Shelton was elected mayor last night during a special meeting in the town hall.

Shelton, who has served as chairman of the Summit Hill Recreation Commission since its inception, will fill the term of Carlo Collevechio, who resigned Sept. 21, citing a possible conflict of interest between his mayoral duties and his position as assistant manager of the Carbon County office of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

Shelton was one of three council members nominated for the post, and won the vote over William Mansberry and Kathleen Lanzos.

Council members John Ferko, Patrick Rutch and Patrick Kane all favored Shelton.
