Paranormal sightings group coming to Lansford

It’s that time of the year to connect with those on the “other side.”

To celebrate the Halloween season, the Lansford Historical Society will be hosting the Paranormal Sightings group in Lansford on Oct. 24 at 7 p.m.

The group will be ghost hunting at two locations in town, and attendees will be split into two groups. This year, the organization is limiting the attendance number, and preregistration is required. The society is asking for a $10 donation per person to be a part of the event.

To register, you can stop in at the Lansford Historical Society Museum at 117 E. Bertsch St. from 6-8 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, and 6-8 p.m. Oct. 22. You must be 13 years or older to attend, and face masks and social distancing are required. Space is limited for this event.

On the agenda will be a stop at the Welsh church on the 200 block of West Abbott Street. The church dates back to 1850 and is currently under restoration. It has been vacant for many years and was nearly destroyed by fire.

The other stop will be at the #7 or Hauto Tunnel on Dock Street. Constructed in 1872 at a cost of over $550,000, the tunnel was used to transport coal for many years. During its construction, many lives were lost and are noted by drill holes on a rock above the tunnel entrance. There are also many stories of tragic events that took place in or near the tunnel.

President Bill Harleman noted that the paranormal group observed a lot of activity at both locations last year and they will return again to attempt to make contact.

For more information, you can contact Harleman at 570-617-4683 or visit the society’s Facebook page.
