State police at Frackville barracks are investigating a theft by deception case.

A47-year-old New Ringgold resident reported to them he never applied for unemployment benefits but received notification that they were granted.

Police said the man received a letter saying his application for benefits was approved but, he said, he never applied for the benefits. He said it is believed someone is using his personal information to effectuate the theft.
