Lehighton man placed in probation program

A Lehighton man won’t have to spend any time in prison after being sentenced to a special probation program on Friday in Carbon County court.

William C. Ahner, 43, was placed in the Restrictive Condition of Probation program (formerly the Intermediate Punishing Program - house arrest) for 18 months with the first 30 days on electronic monitoring.

Ahner previously pleaded guilty to one count of disposition of vehicle or vehicle part with altered vehicle identification number, a felony 3. He was arrested on March 27 by state police at Lehighton along Indian Mountain Road in Franklin Township, where he was found with a 2000 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, which was originally reported stolen in Durham, North Carolina. In exchange for the plea, the district attorney’s office dropped two felony 2 counts of receiving stolen property.

Judge Joseph J. Matika also ordered Ahner to render 75 hours of community service, supply a DNA sample, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation.
