Local Roundup: Results from Oct. 10

It was a good weekend for Northwestern, as the Tigers posted wins in three different sports Saturday.

The Colonial League picked up victories in soccer, field hockey and volleyball.

BOYS SOCCER

Northwestern-Palmerton

Jeff Garcia and Colin Coffield both had a goal and an assist as Northwestern rolled to a 9-0 Colonial League victory over Palmerton.

The Tigers had nine different players score goals. Other to find the back of the net included Cayden Fitch, Aidan Bissell, Mason Brensinger, Seth Brady, Noah Shupp, Josh Zellner and Austin Vogwill.

Adding assists were Donovan Martinez, Brandon Smeltz, Juan Arenas, Phil Taylor and Nicholas Krum.

Northwestern improved to 10-2 overall, while the Bombers dropped to 0-8.

Jim Thorpe-Tamaqua

Jim Thorpe used a pair of second-half goals from Aidan Clements and Dawson Meckes to gain a 2-1 Schuylkill League comeback win over Tamaqua.

Tyler Steigerwalt gave the Blue Raiders (9-5) a 1-0 lead in the opening half before the Olympians (9-3-1) rallied.

Meckes added an assist, as did teammate Jack Morris.

Jacob Geiser had four saves for the winners.

No. Lehigh-Lehighton

Lehighton gained a 3-0 non-league victory over Northern Lehigh.

Cassido Schaeff, Mason Margeschau and Logan Lucas all recorded second-half goals for the Indians, while Matt Sefranko had a pair of assists.

Bulldogs keeper Logan Dyer had 14 saves. His counterpart, Kaleb May, had two stops in the shutout win.

Lehighton improved to 3-9-1, while Nolehi fell to 0-8.

VOLLEYBALL

Allen-Northwestern

Olivia Silfies had 11 kills to help Northwestern earn a 25-21, 25-27, 25-13, 25-8 non-league victory over Allen.

Jenna Breininger added eight kills, eight aces and six digs to the Tigers’ win, while Mia Ritter contributed 26 assists, four kills and six digs.

Others aiding the Northwestern (8-7) cause included Ella Carson (nine digs), Sam Moss (eight digs), Alayna Zotter (six aces, five digs), Sara Jenkins (three kills, three digs) and Alia Reimert (three aces, two digs).

FIELD HOCKEY

Salisbury-Northwestern

Lauren Schellhammer had two goals and an assist to help power Northwestern to a 7-3 Colonial League win over Salisbury.

The Tigers, who improved to 11-4 overall, also received a pair of goals from Brynn Balliet and three assists from Tess Ledeboer.

Other Northwestern players contributing goals were Brooke Page, Brinley Rex, and Jalissa Molina, while Rex, Dani Lister added assists.

For the Falcons, Katherine Lovelidge had two goals.

Schuylkill Vy.-Lehighton

Schuylkill Valley broke a scoreless tie late in its contest with Lehighton to gain a 1-0 victory.

Gabrielle Henry-Werley scored the game’s only goal off a feed from Anna Katz with 12:20 left to produce the win.

The loss dropped the Indians to 4-7-1.

GIRLS SOCCER

Tamaqua-Blue Mountain

A pair of goals from Lexi Thomas helped Tamaqua post a 3-0 Schuylkill League victory over Blue Mountain.

Maura Walker opened the scoring for the Blue Raiders in the first half, while Thomas made it 2-0 in the opening half.

Thomas added an insurance marker in the second half, as her team improved its season record to 7-7.

Tamaqua keeper Zoe Seltzer was busy in net, making 18 saves, while Sophia Boyle added two assists and Megan Lavine contributed one.

Pottsville-Lehighton

Lehighton dropped a 4-0 Schuylkill League decision to Pottsville.

The loss dropped the Indians to 2-10-1.

CROSS COUNTRY

Tamaqua-N. Schuylkill- Pottsville-Minersville

The Tamaqua girls picked up one win during a four-team Schuylkill League cross country meet.

The Blue Raiders defeated Minersville, but lost to North Schuylkill and Pottsville. The Tamaqua boys were swept.

Grace Stegermarten paced the Raider girls with a fifth-place finish, while Frances Kabana followed in sixth. In the boys race, Tait Ehrig ended eighth for Tamaqua.
