Local roundup: Results from Oct. 8

Jim Thorpe earned victories in boys soccer and volleyball action on Thursday, while both the Lehighton boys and girls soccer teams enjoyed success.

BOYS SOCCER

Jim Thorpe-Nativity

Jim Thorpe pulled away from Nativity for a 5-0 nonleague win.

Jack Morris had two goals and an assist for the Olympians, who scored four times in the second half - including once by Morris - who had the game’s only tally in the first half.

Aiden Clements, TJ Dudak and Donavan Beirman also scored in the victory. Dawson Meckes, Georgiy Sakharov and Clements all recorded assists, while Jacob Geiser made four saves.

Lehighton-Pottsville

Lehighton edged Pottsville for a 2-1 Schuylkill League victory.

Carter Strauss gave the Tribe (2-9-1) an early lead with a goal off an assist from Cassidy Schaeffer, before Ryan Graver’s score on an assist from Mason Marchessault made it 2-0. Kaleb May (two) and AJ Light (two) combined to make four saves.

Labrandon Kessock-Haney scored off a feed from Dylan Bohorad to cut the Tide’s (4-5-2) deficit to one goal before halftime, but they couldn’t come up with the equalizer.

Blue Mountain-Tamaqua

Blue Mountain struck first to turn back Tamaqua for a 3-1 Schuylkill League win.

Ryan Mundy and Aidan Valentine gave the Eagles a 2-0 lead in the first half, before Derek Burcik added another score after the intermission.

Tyler Steigerwalt scored on a penalty kick for the Blue Raiders in the second half. Blue Mountain also won the JV contest, 3-1.

So. Lehigh-No. Lehigh

Southern Lehigh cruised to a 4-0 Colonial League win over Northern Lehigh.

Tyler King had a hat trick in the first half for the Spartans. Jack Johnson also added a goal.

Saucon Valley-Palmerton

Saucon Valley posted a 4-2 win over Palmerton in Colonial League competition.

GIRLS SOCCER

Palmerton-Saucon Valley

Brianna Moore’s hat trick powered Palmerton to a 3-1 victory over Saucon Valley in Colonial League play.

Moore scored all of her goals, including two penalty kicks, in the first half.

Jorryn Kyra scored off a corner in the second half for the Panthers.

Nativity-Lehighton

Lehighton rolled to a 3-0 nonleague win over Nativity.

Ashley Marchessault had two goals for the Tribe, who did all of their scoring in the first half. Abigail Meckes had the first goal of the game for the winners, while Alyssa Myers stopped five shots in the Lehighton goal.

No. Lehigh-So. Lehigh

Two second-half goals lifted Southern Lehigh to a 2-0 Colonial League win over Northern Lehigh.

Erika Patel and Bella Touzeau scored for the Spartans, while Ava Foran finished with one save in goal to record the shutout.

Erica Detweiler made 12 saves for the Bulldogs.

VOLLEYBALL

Marian-Mahanoy

Marian swept a Schuylkill League match against Mahanoy 25-16, 25-15, 25-15.

Alivia Karchner had nine kills and 10 digs for the Fillies. Rebecca Dzuranin finished with seven kills and six digs, Ashlyn Klitsch dished out 21 assists, and Tatiana Zeleniak recorded eight digs and three aces.

Panther Valley-Pine Grove

Panther Valley stormed to a 25-11, 17-25, 26-24, 25-19 victory against Pine Grove in a Schuylkill League match.

Erika Dubosky had an ace, 22 kills and 10 assists for the Panthers. Alexis Cooper added 16 digs, and Natalie White finished with two aces, seven kills and two blocks.

PV won the JV match, 2-0.

Pottsville-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe outlasted Pottsville 17-25, 25-23, 25-21, 20-25, 15-9 in a Schuylkill League match.

Brandy Montemuro had 14 kills, 27 digs and 17 assists for the Olympians. Kristin Pompa finished with 11 kills, and Autumn Snyder and Olivia Wolfe each had eight. Abigail McGinley, Andi Hoherchak, Leah Figura and Carsen Rosenberger all had double digit dig totals, while Hoherchak also had 29 assists.

FIELD HOCKEY

So. Lehigh-Northwestern

Brianna Stock’s second-period goal was all Southern Lehigh needed in a 1-0 Colonial League win over Northwestern.

Stock’s score was assisted by Iris Gluck.

Saucon Valley-No. Lehigh

Saucon Valley shut out Northern Lehigh 2-0 in a Colonial League contest.

Sophie Engelhardt and Megan Kane both scored for the Panthers.
