Local roundup: Results from Oct. 7

The Tamaqua girls soccer team rallied for a dramatic victory on Wednesday.

Elsewhere, Northwestern and Northern Lehigh picked up wins in field hockey action, while the Jim Thorpe volleyball posted a sweep in a nonleague match.

GIRLS SOCCER

Lehighton-Tamaqua

Tamaqua broke through in double overtime to pull out a 2-1 win over Lehighton in Schuylkill League action.

Brittney Bartsavage started the scoring for the Indians to give them the lead, only to be countered by Sophia Boyle to knot it at 1-1 at halftime. In the second overtime period, Boyle sent a corner kick into the box where Terra Steigerwalt finished it off with the game winner.

Zoe Seltzer recorded 11 saves in goal for the Raiders, while Alyssa Myers had 15 for Lehighton.

The JV game ended in a 1-1 tie, with Tamaqua’s goal coming from Sara Hope.

FIELD HOCKEY

Catasauqua-No. Lehigh

Gabby Myster’s hat trick led Northern Lehigh to a 6-3 Colonial League win over Catasauqua.

Jordyn Hemmingway, Brooke Nonnemacher and Olivia Horninger also scored for the Bulldogs. Delaney Szwast assisted on each of Myster’s scores, while Hailie Krasenics had the assist on Horninger’s goal.

Kendall Heiney made five saves in the win.

Northwestern-Salisbury

Northwestern rolled past Salisbury for a 7-1 Colonial League victory.

The Tigers’ Reagan Hernandez and Alexandra Lister both finished with two goals, while Morgan Werley, Brooke Page and Charlotte Horn all added single scores.

Nevaeh Robinson scored the Falcons’ lone goal.

So. Lehigh-Palmerton

Southern Lehigh blanked Palmerton for a 2-0 Colonial League win.

Emily Bollinger had 14 saves for the Blue Bombers.

VOLLEYBALL

Jim Thorpe-NDGP

Jim Thorpe swept Notre Dame Green Pond 25-18, 25-18, 25-17 in a nonleague match.

Brandy Montemuro had 16 digs, nine assists, seven kills, and two aces for the Olympians. Andi Hoherchak (11 digs, 15 assists); Abigail McGinley (19 digs, two aces); Autumn Snyder (eight kills, two aces); Olivia Wolfe (12 digs); Carsen Rosenberger (nine digs) and Alexandra Ramey (six kills) also came up with key performances in the win.

So. Lehigh-Northwestern

Southern Lehigh came out on top with a 25-8, 25-15, 25-18 Colonial League win over Northwestern.

The Spartans remained unbeaten at 7-0 (6-0 CL) with the victory.

Jenna Breininger had six kills, five digs and one block for the Tigers, who slipped to 3-4 overall (3-3 CL). Ella Carson added two kills and 12 digs, while Jacey O’Donnell recorded five digs and nine assists and Olivia Silfies tallied two kills.

CROSS COUNTRY

Lehighton-North Schuylkill Minersville-Nativity-

Jim Thorpe

Lehighton and Jim Thorpe took part in a five-team Schuylkill League meet.

Jim Thorpe picked up wins over Lehighton in both the boys’ (20-35) and girls’ (20-41) meets.

Individually, the Indians’ Kelsey Gaston led the way with a third-place finish in the girls’ meet, while the Olympians’ Katelyn Bos placed fifth.

In the boys meet, Jim Thorpe’s Ryan Bailor finished fourth, while Owen Serfass had a ninth-place finish to lead Lehighton.

Tamaqua-Blue Mountain- Pottsville-Pine Grove

The Tamaqua boys and girls both finished 1-2 on the day at a Schuylkill League meet at Pine Grove.

Both Blue Raiders’ squads earned victories over Pine Grove, but fell to both Blue Mountain and Pottsville.

Grace Stegemerten led the way for the Blue Raiders with a second-place finish in the girls’ meet, while Frances Kabana finished fifth.

Tait Ehrig recorded a Blue Raiders’ best fourth-place finish in the boys’ meet.
