Local Roundup: Results from Oct. 3

Jim Thorpe gained wins in both boys soccer and girls tennis over the weekend.

Elsewhere, Palmerton’s Carissa Fallon had a hat trick to help the Bombers post a win in girls soccer action.

BOYS SOCCER

Lehighton-Jim Thorpe

Jack Morris scored a goal and added four assists to help Jim Thorpe roll to an 8-0 Schuylkill League victory over Lehighton.

The Olympians (5-3-1) also received two goals and an assist from Marc Wasleysen, while Aiden Clements scored twice.

Others contributing to the win included Chris Condly (three assists), and Dawson Meckes, TJ Dudak, and Georgiy Sakharov, who all scored a goal.

Jacob Geiser had 10 saves for Thorpe in the shutout.

The loss dropped the Indians to 1-8-1.

Tamaqua-North Schuylkill

Tamaqua recorded a 3-0 Schuylkill League shutout win over North Schuylkill.

Tyler Steigerwalt scored a pair of goals for the Blue Raiders (8-3), while Ian Davis finished with a goal and an assist.

Davis opened the scoring in the first half, while Steigerwalt recorded his tallies in the second.

The winners also received assists from David Vazquez and Mike Shlanta.

Keeper Jon Ulieny registered three saves for Tamaqua.

In the JV matchup, North Schuylkill posted a 2-1 win.

Weatherly-Minersville

Minersville defeated Weatherly in Schuylkill League action, 5-0.

Isiah Kauffman had a hat trick for the winners, while teammate Ethan Larkin scored the Miners’ other two goals.

For the Wreckers, who dropped to 3-5, Frankie Willis had 16 saves in goal.

GIRLS SOCCER

Notre Dame-Palmerton

Carissa Fallon’s hat trick accounted for all of Palmerton’s goals as the Blue Bombers earned a 3-2 Colonial League victory over Notre Dame of Green Pond.

Fallon tallied twice in the first half to give her team a 2-0 lead, and her third score in the second half proved to be the winning tally.

The winners, who improved to 4-1 overall and 4-0 in the league, also received assists from Gianna Kintz and Brianna Moore.

The Crusaders (0-5-1) received goals from Grace Perna and Sarah Sidoro.

Palmerton keeper Megan Green stopped 14 shots.

Lehighton-Pine Grove

Pine Grove posted a 2-0 Schuylkill League win over Lehighton.

The loss dropped the Indians to 1-7-1.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Panther Valley-Northwestern

Panther Valley rolled to a straight-set, nonleague win over Northwestern, 25-7, 25-18, 25-14 decision.

The Panthers (7-2) received 11 kills and seven assists from Erika Dubosky, while teammate Natalie White had six kills and Alexis Cooper added seven digs.

Ella Carson had 18 digs, two kills and two assists for the Tigers (6-6), while Jacey O’Donnell had nine assists. Olivia Silfies added three kills, with Jenna Breininger chipping in with four digs and two kills.

Northwestern took the JV contest, 2-1.

Lehighton-Saucon Valley

Lehighton improved to 7-4 on the season with a 25-14, 26-24, 25-21 straight-set nonleague win over Saucon Valley.

Alexis Solomon led the offensive charge with five kills and eight blocks up front, while Megan Aaron added five kills and four digs. Hailey Miller contributed four aces, three kills, four blocks and a pair of digs, with Sophia Salerno finishing with four aces, three kills, and five blocks.

Saucon Valley took the JV contest, 2-0.

Tamaqua-Mahanoy Area

Mahanoy Area swept Tamaqua in a Schuylkill League contest, 25-8, 25-13, 25-19.

For the Blue Raiders, Leah Mateyak had two kills, an ace and a block.

FIELD HOCKEY

Northwestern-Palmerton

Raegan Hernandez scored the game’s only goal to lead Northwestern to a 1-0 Colonial League victory over Palmerton.

Charlotte Horn provided the assist on the Tigers’ tally, which came in the final quarter.

The winners held a 15-8 edge in shots, with Palmerton keeper Emily Bollinger making seven saves.

GIRLS TENNIS

Jim Thorpe-Schuylkill Valley

Jim Thorpe improved to 7-4 on the season with a 5-0 victory over Schuylkill Valley.

The Olympians’ Christy McLean, Trista Gehris and Sophia Samoleski all registered singles wins.
