Man charged with strangling girlfriend during argument

A Lansford man has been charged with strangling his girlfriend during an argument.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by officer Vincent Morrow of the Kidder Township Police Department in the case against Anthony Sims:

At 10:28 p.m. Sept. 22, Morrow was advised by the Carbon County Communication Center of a domestic assault that has occurred at the Hickory Run Motel in Albrightsville, but had moved to a home on Jeane Drive in Penn Forest Township.

The victim, said Sims, 23, wished to leave the motel to go to her residence and retrieve a gun.

The Lehighton state police told Morrow the victim was at her residence, and that Sims was outside in a white Subaru Outback.

While en route, Morrow called the victim, who said that when she returned to the Hickory Run Motel at 9 p.m., Sims met her outside and an argument began.

The victim said that Sims took her phone, shut off the car and took her keys, then jabbed the keys into her left side near her ribs.

She said that they went into the motel room where Sims began punching her in the head, and threw her to the ground.

The victim said that Sims then put both of his hands around her neck, choking her to the point she could not breathe.

She said that Sims also covered her mouth, restricting her breathing, and that after that, Sims began punching her again, and had ripped out some of the hair on the side of her head.

When police arrived, the victim was standing at the door of the residence, while Sims was outside in the driveway sitting in their vehicle.

Sims was taken into custody with no issues.

The woman had visible marks and bruises which were consistent with her story around her neck, facial area, and left rib area.

The victim said that this is not the first time this has happened in their near two-year relationship.

Sims faces charges of strangulation; simple assault; harassment; and disorderly conduct.

He is currently incarcerated in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $100,000 straight bail, and scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Wednesday before District Judge Joseph D. Homanko Sr. of Weatherly.
