Virtual Hunger Walk

While we’re not able to host a physical Hunger Walk this year due to the ongoing pandemic, our mission to help Tamaqua residents with food issues will go on from the comfort and safety of our own homes, backyards or neighborhoods.

We are asking you to complete your own Hunger Walk. Seek a few sponsors from family and friends and do some walking. By the end of the month, you can share with us how many miles you walked and how much you have been able to raise.

All funds collected go to our food banks here in Tamaqua.

Our goal is to have at least 100 walkers.

Step 1: Register online at https://www.ziontamaqua.com/virtual-hunger-walk/or by contacting Paul Dodson at 570-668-0289 or George Taylor at 570-668-4451.

Step 2: Seek sponsors from family and friends. You could encourage them to sponsor you for a set amount per mile or they can simply make a donation to your effort. There are two ways to go about seeking sponsorships

Network for Good: If you decide to use a Network for Good Peer-to-Peer page, you will use your social media contacts to solicit sponsors. You will invite friends and family to go to your page to sponsor you. You can also simply sponsor yourself if that is what you would prefer to do. When you register, we will send you a link so you can set up your own Peer-to-Peer page.

On your own: Use the attached sponsor sheet to collect sponsorships. After you’ve completed Step 3, we will collect your form and funds.

Step 3: Do the walking. We encourage you to post video of your walk on our Facebook page. After Oct. 31, we will assemble the video into one Virtual Walk which we will post along with the total we have raised together.

Video length should not exceed 1 minute. Video format should be horizontal (landscape). MP4 video format preferred. Participants must comply with social distancing and CDC guidelines. If you are walking in a group, masks should be worn unless you are all from the same household.

Please move from left to right so that all of our walkers are moving in the same direction.
