Local roundup: Results from Sept. 24

The Palmerton golf team turned in an impressive display of team depth in a victory over Pen Argyl on Thursday.

GOLF

Pen Argyl-Palmerton

Five players posted rounds in the 70s as Palmerton cruised to a 369-505 Colonial League victory over Pen Argyl.

Connor Reinhard led the Bombers with a score of 72, while Derek Rea and Josh Suto both followed with scores of 73.

Jim Thorpe-Sch. Haven

Lydia Wallace’s hat trick and two assists sparked Jim Thorpe to an 8-1 Schuylkill League victory over Schuylkill Haven.

Lauren LeKites followed with two goals and three assists, while Olivia Rosenberger and Heidi Washel added scores.

Kate Bos grabbed eight saves for the Olympians in goal.

Tamaqua-Hamburg

Hamburg scored a goal in each half to pull away from Tamaqua for a 2-0 non-league win.

Jasynda Vize scored both goals off assist from Lauren Sterner for Hamburg.

Zoe Seltzer recorded 11 saves in goal for Tamaqua while Hannah Gravish had seven for Hamburg.

Hamburg also won the JV contest, 6-0.

BOYS SOCCER

Pottsville-Tamaqua

Pottsville defeated Tamaqua 4-3 in Schuylkill League action.

Mike Shlanta led the Blue Raiders with two goals, while Tyler Steigerwalt added a score.

Labrandon Kessock-Haney paced the Tide with two goals, while Chase Fenstermacher and Mario Ortiz finished with one apiece.

FIELD HOCKEY

Moravian-Northwestern

Brinley Rex’s goal with 6:51 left in overtime lifted Northwestern to a 3-2 Colonial League victory over Moravian Academy.

Lauren Schellhamer and Reagan Hernandez both had a goal and an assist for the Tigers.

Nikki Chiaradia and Maya Ohlandt posted the Lions’ goals.

Palisades-Palmerton

Sydney Frantz’s goal was all Palmerton needed to secure a 1-0 Colonial League win over Palisades.

Emily Baumgardt was credited with the assist.

Pleasant Valley-ES North

Pleasant Valley defeated East Stroudsburg North for a 458-584 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory.

The Timberwolves’ Steven Ottman posted a medalist score of 82.

Calvin Walsh recorded a Bears’ low of 102.

VOLLEYBALL

Jim Thorpe-N. Schuylkill

Jim Thorpe cruised to a 25-10, 25-13, 25-9 Schuylkill League victory over North Schuylkill.

Brandy Montemuro sparked the Olympians with eight aces, eight assists and seven kills. Abigail McGinley (20 digs, five aces); Autumn Snyder (10 kills); Carsen Rosenberger (10 digs); and Andi Hoherchak (11 assists) also played well for Thorpe.

Lehighton-Lourdes

Lehighton came away with a 25-10, 25-16, 25-20 Schuylkill League win over Lourdes Regional.

Maddy Sofranko led the Indians with 21 assists, eight aces and two kills. Megan Aaron (five digs, four kills, two aces); Maddy Stoffey (four kills, two blocks) and Hailey Miller (eight kills, three aces) also played key roles in the victory.

Northwestern-Saucon Vy.

Northwestern swept Saucon Valley for a 25-13, 25-20, 25-22 Colonial League victory.

Brynn Buscheta paced the Tigers with 18 assists, nine aces and four kills. Also playing well for Northwestern were Jenna Breininger (12 kills); Ella Carson (five digs, two aces), Sam Moss (five digs) and Olivia Silfies (three kills).

Blue Mountain-Panther V.

Blue Mountain defeated Panther Valley in Schuylkill League action, 25-14, 25-20, 25-23.

The Panthers’ Erika Dubosky finished with 13 kills, eight digs and two assists, while Madison Heckman chipped in with 10 assists and four kills, and

Alexis Cooper added eight digs.

Tamaqua-Schuylkill Haven

Schuylkill Haven posted a 25-22, 25-15, 25-16 Schuylkill League victory over Tamaqua.

The Blue Raiders were led by Madison Baddick (three digs, two kills); Leah Mateyak (three aces, two kills); and Kaydee Romig (four aces, one kill).

Notre Dame-Palmerton

Notre Dame Green Pond knocked off Palmerton for a 25-4, 25-12, 25-12 Colonial League win.

Schuylkill Vy.-Tamaqua

Tamaqua swept singles’ play matches to post a 3-2 win over Schuylkill Valley.

The Blue Raiders’ trio of Sabrina Pratt, Nami Choi and Anjelika Bollentino came away with victories.
