Local roundup: Results from Sept. 23

The Northwestern girls soccer, boys soccer and field hockey teams all earned victories on Wednesday.

GIRLS SOCCER

Catasauqua-Palmerton

Gianna Kintz’s hat-trick propelled Palmerton to a 4-0 Colonial League win over Catasauqua.

Brianna Moore added a score for the Bombers, while Emma Martinez recorded three assists.

Megan Green secured the shutout with four saves.

Lehighton-North Schuylkill

Three different players scored as Lehighton recorded a 3-0 Schuylkill League win over North Schuylkill.

The trio of Abigail Meckes, Ashley Marchessault and Charlie McHugh secured the victory with goals for the Indians, while Brittney Bartasavage was credited with assists on two of the goals.

Lehighton keeper Alyssa Myers finished with four saves.

Palisades-Northwestern

Northwestern needed an extra time, but pulled out a 2-1 Colonial League victory in overtime over Palisades.

Sophia Motolese and Sammi Bardonner posted the Tigers’ two goals, while Olivia Motolese was credited with an assist.

Tigers’ keeper Naomi Glassberg finished with five saves.

Tamaqua-Schuylkill Haven

Sophia Boyle and Megan Rolko both recorded hat tricks as Tamaqua cruised to a 7-2 victory over Schuylkill Haven.

Terra Steigerwalt capped the scoring on the night for the Blue Raiders with a goal, while Boyle also finished with two assists. Rylee Wenzel also was credited with an assist in the win.

Keeper Zoe Seltzer finished with nine saves for the Blue Raiders.

Jim Thorpe-Blue Mountain

Blue Mountain posted a 3-1 Schuylkill League win over Jim Thorpe.

Kera Paul scored twice for the Eagles, who led 3-0 at halftime.

Lydia Wallace scored for the Olympians, who held a 13-9 edge in shots on goal, in the second half. Kate Bos made five saves.

BOYS SOCCER

Northwestern-Palisades

Dylan Moss finished off a corner kick from Colin Coffield for the game-winner in a 2-1 Colonial League victory over Palisades in overtime.

Matt Johnson added the other score for the Tigers during regulation.

Austin Vogwill finished with three saves for the Tigers.

Palmerton-Catasauqua

Catasauqua knocked off Palmerton for a 4-1 Colonial League win.

Damian DiPaolo led the Roughies with two goals, while Jaxon Berrier and Vinicius Takahashi both added scores.

Jonny Perloni scored the Bombers’ lone goal. Brayden Kline (one save) and Colton Stroup (seven saves) split time in front of the Bombers’ net.

FIELD HOCKEY

Catasauqua-Northwestern

Three first-half goals pushed Northwestern to a 5-2 Colonial League victory over Catasauqua.

Lauren Schellhamer led the Tigers with two goals and an assist, while Brynn Balliet followed with two goals.

Jalissa Molina added a score for Northwestern, while Greenleigh McGehee added two assists.

CROSS-COUNTRY

Jim Thorpe- Weatherly-Pottsville

The Weatherly boys grabbed the spotlight in a sweep over Jim Thorpe and Pottsville in a tri-meet.

Scotty Zoscin and Frankie Willis sparked the unbeaten Wrecker boys with a 1-2 finish, while the Olympians’ Ridge Snyder placed third.

The Jim Thorpe boys and girls ended up with a split, while the Wrecker girls were swept.

Megan Rosahac led the Olympians with a fourth-place finish in the girls’ meet, while Danielle Gordon paced the Wreckers with a seventh-place finish.
