State police at Frackville crashes

State police at Frackville reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers on Schuylkill County roadways including two resulting in drunken driving charges.

• A crash occurred at 9:46 p.m. on Sept. 19 along Route 54 in Ryan Township. Troopers said George J. Burns, 50, of Ashland, was driving a 2016 Ford F350 truck westbound when the vehicle left the road and struck a utility pole. The truck then re-entered the road and traveled about 100 yards before going onto the north side of the road and coming to rest.

Burns, who was not injured, showed signs of impairment and was placed under arrest for DUI. The vehicle was towed.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 10:58 p.m. on Sept. 18 along Route 54 in Ashland. Troopers said Edward R. Harter, 33, of Ashland, was driving a 2008 Suzuki SX4 eastbound when the vehicle left its lane of travel, crossed the westbound lane and onto the shoulder of the road. At this time the Suzuki struck a post and then traveled into a tree.

Harter fled the scene. During a neighborhood canvass, troopers located the vehicle which sustained disabling damages to the front end. A smashed piece of front bumper was found at the scene and matched damage to the vehicle found.

Harter was found inside his home and taken into custody for DUI.

• A hit-and-run crash was reported at 4:39 p.m. on Sept. 5 along Interstate 81 in Frailey Township. Troopers said Nolan R. Plantz, 21, of Enola, Cumberland County, was driving a 2017 Volkswagen Jetta northbound in the left lane. Another vehicle was in the right lane pulling a trailer with heavy equipment. A piece of the heavy equipment fell off the trailer and bounced on the road and then went under the Jetta, causing disabling damage to the engine. Plantz and his passenger, Natalie J. Lepri, 21, of Mechanicsburg, Cumberland County, were not injured. The other vehicle continued north without stopping.
