A look back: Sept. 23, 1980

In an extremely generous demonstration of his commitment to the people of St. Joseph Parish, Summit Hill, the Rev. Donald Henry, recently appointed pastor there, announced he will turn over to the parish a gift amounting to $5,063 given to him almost entirely by members of his former parish, St. Joseph the Worker, Orefield.

The gift will be placed in the newly established St. Joseph’s Memorial Fund, which was initiated by Henry to raise funds to aid the financially troubled parish.

Despite his wish that the parish he was departing not give him a going-away present, asking only for prayers, Henry was the recipient of the funds given by the Orefield parishioners, as well as priests from the Allentown and Philadelphia dioceses.
