Local Roundup: Results from Sept. 18-19

Lehighton earned a pair of recent volleyball wins, while its boys soccer team played to a tie.

Tamaqua and Northwestern also won in volleyball action, while Palmerton gained a victory in field hockey.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Palmerton-Lehighton

Lehighton cruised past non-league opponent Palmerton, as it earned a 25-12, 25-5, 25-15 win.

The Indians’ Megan Aaron had five aces and four kills, while Sophia Salerno had four aces and five kills.

The winners received 18 assists and two aces from Maddie Sofranko, with Hailey Miller contributing eight aces and a pair of kills. Maddie Stoffey also totaled five kills and a block.

Lehighton also prevailed in the JV contest, 2-1.

Northwestern-Saucon Vy.

Northwestern cruised past Saucon Valley, claiming a 25-19, 25-17, 25-22 Colonial League victory over the Panthers on Senior Day.

Brynn Buschta had 13 assists, five aces and five digs for the Tigers, while Sara Jenkins added four kills.

The winners, who defeated Saucon for the first time ever, also received two kills and five aces from Jenna Breininger. Ella Carson chipped in with two kills, five digs and a pair of aces.

Williams Valley-Tamaqua

Tamaqua made quick work of Williams Valley, taking a 25-11, 25-15, 25-15 three-set victory over the Vikings.

Minersville-Lehighton

Lehighton rebounded from a loss in the first set Friday to gain a 22-25, 25-12, 25-18, 25-19 victory over Minersville.

Sophia Salerno paced the Indians with 10 kills, six assists, three blocks, two aces and a couple of digs. Hailey Miller added seven kills, three digs, two blocks and an ace.

Alexis Soloman also contributed six kills, eight blocks and four aces.

GIRLS SOCCER

Pine Grove-Tamaqua

A second-half goal by Mia Jefferson allowed Pine Grove to gain a 1-0 Schuylkill League victory over Tamaqua.

The Cards’ Mikiala Donmoyer assisted on the game’s only tally.

Zoe Seltzer was solid in goal for the Blue Raiders (2-2; 2-2), making 23 saves. Pine Grove’s McKenna Levan stopped six shots.

The Cardinals also won the JV game, 3-0.

Weatherly-Sch. Haven

Brooke Siket and Nadia Zimmerman both had hat tricks to help lift Schuylkill Haven to a 7-0 Schuylkill League win over Weatherly.

The Hurricanes, who also received a goal from Haley Brown, led 5-0 after the first half.

Emma Kane was busy in net for the Wreckers, making 28 saves.

BOYS SOCCER

Tamaqua-Blue Mountain

Ryan Mundy had a goal and two assists to help Blue Mountain earn a 3-0 Schuylkill League win over Tamaqua.

The Eagles, who led 1-0 after the first half, also received a goal and a helper from Aiden Valentine.

James Coolbaugh had the other tally for the winners.

For the Blue Raiders, goalie Jon Ulieny made five saves.

Lehighton-Pottsville

Lehighton and Pottsville battled through two scoreless overtimes, and finished in a 3-3 Schuylkill League tie.

Carter Strauss had a goal and an assist for the Indians, while Logan Lucas and Chris Fisher both added goals.

Lehighton also received an assist from Matt Sofranko, with goalie Kaleb May making nine saves.

For the Crimson Tide, LaBrandon Kessock-Haney scored a pair of goals, and Chris Fenstermacher added the third.

FIELD HOCKEY

Saucon Valley-Palmerton

Palmerton posted a 1-0 Colonial League shutout against Saucon Valley.

GOLF

So. Lehigh-Palmerton

Palmerton posted a Colonial League win over Southern Lehigh Friday, grabbing a 418-459 victory.

The Bombers’ Tyler Hager earned medalist honors with a strong round of 75, while teammate Josh Suto carded an 83.

Michael Andrews and Cohen Resch both had 85s for the Spartans.
