50,000th diaper distributed

This weekend, Diaper Depot, a ministry of Zion Lutheran Church in Tamaqua, will distribute its 50,000th diaper.

The ministry has been in operation since October 2018 and is affiliated with the Greater Philadelphia Diaper Bank.

Since its beginning, Diaper Depot has received 938 requests from families in the Tamaqua Area School District and served over 1,061 children.

Diapers are free and are distributed by appointment only on the third Saturday of the month beginning at 9 a.m. Diaper requests are assembled the evening before distribution.

Assembling the diapers is this Friday beginning at 5:30 p.m. Volunteers assemble the diapers in about an hour’s time.

Zion Lewistown

Zion Church, Lewistown Valley will host a special speaker this Sunday. Al Spotts will share his testimony during the 10:30 a.m. church service. Masks are required.

Calvary Lewistown

Pastor Ralph Saunders will offer the message at the 10:25 a.m. Sunday service, held at the Lewistown Valley Tabernacle, 614 Valley Road, Tamaqua.

For those who prefer staying in the car, the FM station will be available for listening or bring your lawn chair to sit outside.

Rush-Ryan Seniors

The Rush-Ryan-Delano Senior Citizens met Sept. 8 at Christ Church, Barnesville. The president opened the meeting with the reading “Little Things.”

Lucille Sparr was welcomed back and new member Beverly Barron was given a warm welcome by the group. Birthdays celebrated for the month of Sept. include: Ruthann Feane, Nancy Eisley, Dorothy Fegley, Alberta Woodring, Joyce Krell, Marlene Randig. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Herb are celebrating their anniversary of 55 years. Maryann Laughlin won a Longaberger basket that was chanced off.

The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at Christ Church, Barnesville at 1 p.m. Anyone 55 or older is invited to attend.

St. John Lutheran

The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. Sunday service in St. John’s Lutheran Church. Doors will open at 9 a.m. and masks are required. Confirmation class following the worship service.
