Ross Township supervisors discussed a few upcoming events during their monthly meeting on Monday.
It will host a fall cleanup on Sept. 25 and Sept. 26 from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Residents may bring garbage, recycling and items such as old tires and appliances to dispose of in the dumpsters and bins the township has rented. Fees will apply for certain items.
Supervisors then discussed Halloween.
“I have received a lot of calls and questions about if we will have trick-or-treating,” said Chairwoman Tina Drake.
Due to the pandemic, many communities have already canceled their Halloween events. Other municipalities are still discussing options on how to proceed cautiously.
Vice Chairman David Shay suggested that she contact the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors for safety guidelines and recommendations.
The three supervisors then voted in favor of trick-or-treating occurring within the township on Oct. 31. They will discuss it more at October’s meeting.
The township usually hosts its Christmas tree lighting, carol sing-along and visit with Santa in early December.
Supervisors voted to have it either Dec. 5 or 12, but with modifications such as handing out a bag of cookies and coloring book instead of having the children go inside the building to meet Santa and have refreshments.
They will check when Chestnuthill Township is having their event, so it is not on the same date.
Drake will get recommendations for Halloween and Christmas events when she speaks with PSATS members and present such options at the October supervisors meeting.
