Carbon County court — drug-related cases

A total of five defendants in pending drug-related cases entered guilty pleas on Monday in Carbon County court.

Judge Steven R. Serfass accepted pleas from the following:

Michelle A. Muthard,

41, of Lehighton, pleaded in two pending cases to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia and obstruction of law enforcement.

She was arrested on the drug charge on March 22 by state police at Lehighton along White Street in Weissport. She was picked up on outstanding warrants and found with the paraphernalia on her when taken into custody.

The obstruction count stems from an incident on Jan. 20 filed by state police after a traffic stop along Route 443 in Lehighton. She was issued a citation for a vehicle violation but signed the name of a relative. Later the relative reported the incident after she got notice of the citation.

On the obstruction count she was placed on probation for a year, and on the drug charge six months with the terms running consecutively. She was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render a total of 75 hours of community service.

Chandler Adam George,

24, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count each of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, in two pending cases.

The first count stems from an incident on July 6, 2019, filed by Weissport police. Police responded to Railway Street to a report of suspicious vehicle. George was a passenger in the vehicle and found with heroin and methamphetamine. The second arrest occurred on July 16, 2019, in Lehighton when police responded to a report of a suspicious person in the area of 554 Iron St. George was the person in question found lying on a bench and in possession of various drug paraphernalia.

On the first count Serfass sentenced George to time-served (10 days) to one year in jail, and on the second count six months probation with the terms running consecutively.

He was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment and render a total of 75 hours of community service.

Rosalie Sotomayor,

39, of Philadelphia, pleaded to one count each of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

She was arrested on Sept. 20, 2019, by the sheriff’s department at the county prison. She was brought to the prison from Philadelphia on a bench warrant for failure to appear on the instant case. At the jail while being processed marijuana was found on her.

On the first count Serfass sentenced her to time-served (five days) to one year in jail and on the second count a year probation concurrent with the first count. She was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment and render 50 hours of community service.

Michael T. Ross,

33, of Bangor, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested on March 19, 2019, by state police at Fern Ridge along East Mud Run Road in Penn Forest Township. Police responded to a residence and executed a search warrant. Drug paraphernalia was found in the home, which Ross admitted belonged to him.

He was placed on probation for a year, consecutive to a probation term he is presently serving, and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 50 hours of community service.

Melissa Ann Trader,

46, of Hazle Township, Luzerne County, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. She was arrested on Oct. 10, 2019, by Nesquehoning police in the area of Routes 209 and 93 following a report of a disabled vehicle.

She was sentenced to time-served (eight days) to six months in jail and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 25 hours of community service.

Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole or probation.
