Schuylkill man admits making three false reports to police
A Schuylkill County man admitted in Carbon County court on Monday to making three false reports to law enforcement in three separate incidents, alleging sexual misconduct.
Kerry Lee Freedman, 45, of Coaldale, appeared via video from the Carbon County prison to enter his pleas before Judge Steven R. Serfass.
Freedman admitted making false reports to Nesquehoning police on April 15, May 1 and July 31, alleging his children were being sexually assaulted at a residence in the borough. Police checked the reports each time and found no children at the address given and no truth to the allegations.
In one incident he went to the police station with his cellphone, claiming he had a picture on it showing the assault. When police looked at the phone there was no photograph, just a blank space.
Freedman told Serfass he was using drugs heavily at the time and was involved in a custody matter with the mother of the children involved.
He said he is clearheaded now, not on drugs since his incarceration and has hired legal counsel concerning his custody matter.
Serfass sentenced him to serve four to 12 months on the first two counts, with the terms running concurrently, and one year probation on the third count, running consecutively to the other counts.
He was also ordered to get both drug and alcohol and mental health evaluations and follow any recommendations for treatment, zero tolerance imposed on drug or alcohol use, have no contact with the victims (the residence of the home where the alleged incidents occurred), pay court costs of about $1,000, pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole and probation and render a total of 150 hours of community service when paroled.
He was given credit for a total of 64 days already served and was granted work-release privileges if he qualifies under the prison rules.
