A look back: Sept. 15, 1960

Representatives of the United Mine Workers and local union officials last night approved the articles of agreement presented by the newly formed Lanscoal Mining Co., paving the way for the revival of the deep coal mining operations in the Panther Valley.

Fifteen former mine workers have formed the new corporation, which recently filed articles of incorporation in Harrisburg. The firm plans to enter a working agreement with the Greenwood Mining Corporation which is constructing an ultramodern coal preparation plant in Tamaqua. A spokesman for the firm said the agreement will cover the processing of coal mined by the company.
