State police at Frackville report on crashes

State police at Frackville reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers on Schuylkill County roadways:

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 5:01 a.m. on Aug. 29 along Route 443 in East Brunswick Township. Troopers said Dale J. Fredericks, 41, of Tamaqua, was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer eastbound when he lost control when the driver side rear axle snapped. The Blazer crossed over the westbound lane and onto the berm where it struck a tree head-on. Fredericks suffered a minor injury and was treated at the scene. The vehicle was towed.

New Ringgold Fire Company volunteers and ambulance personnel assisted at the scene.

• A driver is facing a driving under the influence charge following a one-vehicle crash that occurred at 4:40 p.m. on Aug. 9 along Route 209 in Blythe Township. Troopers said Erika L. Zweifel, 29, of Macungie, was driving a 2010 Mazda 6 westbound and negotiating a right hand curve. She attempted to slow down but his flip-flop was caught in the pedals. Zweifel hit both the gas and brake pedals, causing her to lost control. The vehicle went across the opposing lane of travel and onto the berm where it hit a tree. Zweifel sustained suspect minor injuries and was taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital East-Pottsville. She show signs of impairment but refused a blood draw. Her passenger, Anthony J. Banis, 18, of Bath, were not injured. The vehicle was towed. Charges to be filed.

Volunteers from the Walker and Blythe township fire companies assisted at the scene.

• A crash involving a commercial vehicle was reported at 11:29 a.m. on Aug. 28 on the on ramp to Interstate 81 in West Mahanoy Township. Troopers said Francisco A. Cruz Ortiz, 62, of Allentown, was operating a 1988 Mack truck southbound on the ramp. When the truck went around a right hand curve, the trailer portion overturned onto its passenger side at a grass divider. Cruz Ortiz sustained a suspect minor injury and was treated at the scene. The truck had to be towed. Cruz Ortiz was cited for the crash.

A crash occurred at 5:26 a.m. on Aug. 27 along I-81 in Foster Township. Joshua T. Collucci, 20, of New Philadelphia, was driving a 2011 Subaru Impreza southbound when he fell asleep at the wheel. The vehicle drifted onto the berm and struck a guide rail. Collucci was not injured. The vehicle was towed.

Collucci was cited for the crash.
