A look back: Sept. 4, 1975

The Panther Valley Carbon County Unit of the American Cancer Society raised $25,557.76 in the 1974-75 Cancer Crusade that came to a close on Aug. 31.

It was the biggest year ever and also the county for the first time went over the goal set by the central office in Harrisburg.

The unit exceeded the goal by $3,357.76, according to Mrs. Lawrence Furey, Lansford, who served as county chairman. John Griffiths, Lansford, was the special gifts program this year.

They stressed the goal could only be exceeded because of the cooperation and untiring efforts of many volunteers who gave so much of their time, as well as the generosity of the many contributors to the annual drive.
