Palmerton news for Sept. 2, 2020

Faith Alive Church

Faith Alive Church, 678 Pine St., Palmerton (Bowmanstown), is holding one combined service each Sunday at 10:30 a.m. There are four options of worshipping: Worship in sanctuary, must wear a mask, have temperature checked, and social distancing required; worship in Leah’s Room with same rules as sanctuary and must keep mask on at all times as you watch the service on a huge screen; you may worship in the parking lot and tune to 104.3; or you may join on Facebook. On Sept. 6 will be communion Sunday. Communion will be offered inside and outside using sealed, prefilled cups with wafers. All services are led by Pastor Rob Timlin Sr.

Every Wednesday at 7 p.m. is “Prayer & Praise Service” with the same options of worshipping.

ABC Food Pantry is still serving the community. If you know someone who has a need from the food pantry, please call Bev Hargreaves at 610-826-5932.

September’s Mission is Samaritan’s Purse. It is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. For more information check out the church website. Please consider a gift to this wonderful organization.

“Faith Believes,” the women’s group, is meeting again. The women are meeting at the church on Sept. 14 at 9 a.m. and masks are required.

Palmerton Library

The Palmerton Area Library will be closed Saturday and Monday. The library offers the following service reminders. You are welcome to come into the library to browse for books or for photocopying and fax services without an appointment. They still have to limit the number of patrons in the library, and curbside service is available if your prefer it. Computers are limited. Please call and schedule an appointment to use a computer at 610-826-3424.

The basement book sale remains closed. They are currently reorganizing the shelves and looking for ways to sell items while maintaining the safety protocols they need to adhere by.

Holy Trinity Church

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton, will hold worship on Sunday in the sanctuary at 10:15 a.m. Please call the church at 610-826-2524 if you wish to attend. You are asked to wear a mask and may only enter through the main door. If you are unable to attend in person you may join on Zoom. Please remember to bring food items for the CACPAC food pantry and also save your Redner’s register tapes.

Holy Trinity Thrift Shop

The Holy Trinity Thrift Shop at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church is open on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Golf Outing for Scouting

The fourth annual Golf Outing for Scouting of Pack 209 and Troop 209 will be held Sept. 25. The event is presented by Joey B’s Bar & Restaurant and held at Blue Shamrock Golf Club. There will be a 12:30 registration start, 1:30 shotgun start, and 6 p.m. dinner reception. Registration and payment are due by Sept. 11. For information go to ScoutingPack209@gmail.com.

St. John’s Lutheran Church

St. John’s Lutheran Church, 2915 Fireline Road, Palmerton continues to hold Sunday morning worship services outside in the church parking lot at 9:30 a.m. The service is led by Pastor Jody over an amplified sound system. The weekly bulletin can be found on St. John’s Facebook. All are invited to join in the service.

Curbside Breakfast

Parryville Volunteer Fire Co. #2, Main Street in Parryville will host a curbside breakfast on Sunday from 8-11:30 a.m. There is a limited menu. Takeout is preferred but limited seating will be available for those requesting dine in. Phone ahead only at 610-852-2350 or 484-347-3928.

Jerusalem UCC

Worship services at Jerusalem United Church of Christ, Trachsville, will be held in the church grove on Sunday at 9 a.m. Please bring a lawn chair and face masks are required. Social distancing will be required with families being seated accordingly. Restrooms will be available. You can also remain in your car listening to 95.5 FM.

The Rev. Jennika Borger will lead the service and provide an inspirational message. This week holy communion will be observed. You are asked to bring your own elements. In case of inclement weather the service will be held in the sanctuary with limited seating. You can remain in your car in the parking lot for this service also. The service will be recorded and available for viewing on Facebook around 11 a.m.
