A look back: Aug. 29, 1984

Lyle Augustine, Coaldale Borough secretary-treasurer, was appointed to collect earned income and occupational privilege taxes for the borough at a special meeting of the Coaldale Borough Council last night.

Augustine’s duties will begin Jan. 1, 1985, and he will receive $5,000 annually.

He will succeed Jet Computing Data, Lansford, which is currently being paid $4,888. The company also collects the taxes for Nesquehoning and Lansford boroughs and the Panther Valley School District.

Augustine said the money will be invested with the PA Local Government Investment Trust, and will earn 10-11 percent interest, as opposed to the 5.5 percent it currently generates.
