A high-speed chase, which spanned five municipalities, two counties and lasted about 23 minutes, ended in Carbon County on Sunday morning.
State police at Hazleton said the incident began at 3:25 a.m. when troopers attempted a traffic stop for multiple traffic violations on Poplar Street in Hazleton.
The vehicle’s driver failed to stop and fled at a high rate of speed.
During the pursuit the fleeing driver committed multiple traffic violations. The vehicle got stuck on a curb in Banks Township, Carbon County, at which point troopers converged on the vehicle.
The driver then put the vehicle in reverse and struck a marked state police cruiser, then went into drive and struck another marked cruiser, nearly striking troopers, who had gotten out of their vehicles.
The vehicle again fled but was stopped shortly after when troopers utilized a precision immobilization technique to bring the vehicle to a stop.
The operator was taken into custody and identified as Brandon Van Blargan, 28, of Drums, Luzerne County.
There was a passenger in the vehicle who was not identified by troopers but who was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant.
Blargan was charged with driving under the influence, aggravated assault, simple assault, harassment, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, fleeing or attempting to elude police, resisting arrest and numerous traffic violations.
