Carbon County court — guilty pleas
A Carbon County woman admitted in the county court on Monday afternoon to endangering her young daughter with illegal drugs.
She was one of four defendants in pending drug cases to enter a guilty plea before Judge Steven R. Serfass.
Lehighton incident
Megan M. Labyack,
30, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of endangering the welfare of a child.
She was arrested following incidents on March 4, 2019, in Lehighton. Police were involved in an ongoing drug investigation when they made a traffic stop. Labyack was one of the passengers in the vehicle who fled on foot. Through the investigation police learned she was staying in a room at the Mahoning Inn along Route 443.
Police went to the room and found Labyack in the room along with illegal substances including heroin and fentanyl. Drug paraphernalia was also found between two beds. Labyack’s 2-year-old daughter was found within reach of the drugs.
Serfass deferred sentencing as Labyack is seeking to enter the restrictive probation program - house arrest.
Other pleas
Lauren Elizabeth Myers,
of White Haven, pleaded to one count each of possession of a controlled substance and summary offense of driving under suspension.
She was arrested on July 18, 2019, by state police at Fern Ridge following a traffic stop along Route 940 in Kidder Township. The police report indicates methamphetamine was found.
Serfass sentenced her to time-served, four days to 12 months in jail and ordered she get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment and render 50 hours of community service. On the suspension count she was fined $200.
Joshua Adam Griffiths,
30, of Clifford Township, Lackawanna County, pleaded to one count of possession of a small amount of marijuana. He was arrested on Nov. 27, 2019, by state police at Lehighton along Route 903 in Penn Forest Township, following a traffic stop. He was a passenger in the vehicle.
He was fined $300.
Ernesto Luis Gonzalez,
29, of Jim Thorpe, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested on Jan. 22 by Jim Thorpe police at his residence along South Avenue.
He was placed on probation for a year and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 50 hours of community service.
Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole or probation.
