A look back: Aug. 17, 1965

Adjutant Charles H. Shutt was given a life membership in the Shoemaker-Haydt American Legion Post 314, Lehighton, last night.

Presentation of the silver membership card was made to him during the installation meeting of the post, where Shutt was cited for his faithful service to the post as adjutant.

Commander Herman Smelyz of the 30th District installed officers of the post during an impressive ceremony. They included A.F. Everett, commander; Frank A. Connell, first vice commander; Nevin I.H. Hontz, second vice commander; Shutt, adjutant; Art Webb, finance officer; Dawson Brown, sergeant-at-arms; Albert Koch, chaplain; and Edward Knappenberger, historian.
