Groundbreaking planned for new transportation site in Schuylkill

The Schuylkill County Transportation Authority will hold a groundbreaking ceremony 10 a.m. Tuesday for its new facility at 300 Wade Road in Saint Clair. The new 80,000- square-foot facility will provide indoor covered storage, modern maintenance bays and equipment, additional space, and compressed natural gas fueling for its vehicles, according to a press release. Federal, state and local funding made the effort possible.

“SCTA’s objective is to enhance their ability to maintain a world-class transit system that would be able to serve Schuylkill County with distinction and continue to sustain services that are safe, dependable and cost effective,” said Dave Bekisz, executive director of the Schuylkill Transportation System.

STS currently operates out of the Saint Clair Industrial Park.
