Carbon County commissioners

The Carbon County Commissioners on Thursday voted on the following items:

• Approved a proposal with Randy Flexer Masonry of Lehighton to remove old sidewalks, concrete caps, pour new sidewalks and install new caps in the area of the monument near the courthouse and Asa Packer Mansion.

• Ratified an agreement with Navarro & Wright Consulting Engineers Inc. of New Cumberland as prepared by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. The agreement is for construction inspection services for the parking lot trail project through the county lot and will cost up to the maximum amount of $18,813.15. The costs are covered under the transportation alternatives set aside grant.

• Provided an update on the COVID-19 Relief (Carbon) County Block Grant. As of Thursday, a total of 219 applications in the categories of Behavioral Health, Broadband, Municipality, Nonprofit, Small Business and Tourism were received. Applications are still being reviewed by the county block grant administration team and will likely be sent to committees on or around Aug. 15. Based on the first round of fund distribution, which will take place this fall, another round of block grants may take place later this year.
